Review: Bogan Bingo Bottomless Brunch

Komedia Brighton, 44-47 Gardner Street, Brighton BN1 1UN

Bogan Bingo bottomless brunch at Komedia Brighton is one of those events that throws the rulebook out the window and replaces it with mullets, mimosas and madness. If you’re tired of the usual Saturday brunches and fancy something louder and funnier, this wild afternoon out might just be what you’re looking for.

The afternoon kicks off with bottomless drinks. For 90 minutes, the drinks keep coming with a solid range to choose from. There’s Komedia Pilsner on tap, Orchard View Cider, Naughty Bear Pale Ale and brunch classics like Bloody Marys and Mimosas. For those who prefer spirits, you’ve got house vodka or gin with a mixer.

It’s a generous offering that suits all sorts, although we did find ourselves waiting a little longer than we’d like for top-ups. The staff were friendly and helpful so it didn’t take the shine off the experience too much, but with the clock ticking on your 90 minutes, a quicker refill wouldn’t hurt.

The food is tasty and satisfying. You get a choice of four brunch options, including vegetarian and vegan choices. We went straight for the Breakfast Burger, a juicy pork patty served in a soft pretzel bun, topped with crispy streaky bacon, a fried egg, ketchup and hashbrowns which were crispy and golden.

Once you’ve got your food and drink sorted, it’s time for the main event, Bogan Bingo. If you’ve never heard of it before, imagine traditional bingo gatecrashed by a couple of Aussie guys in wigs, armed with crude jokes, tight shorts and a playlist straight out of a 80s or 90s school disco.

The game itself is almost beside the point. Bingo is good fun and there were a range of daft prizes, but what you’re really there for is the entertainment. The hosts are brilliantly over the top, bouncing between dance routines, stand-up comedy and audience interactions that had the whole room laughing (and occasionally blushing). The two lads are cheeky and a little unhinged but totally in control at the same time.

The crowd plays a huge part in making the atmosphere what it is. Everyone was up for it,  dancing, shouting out the numbers and getting properly stuck in. It was impossible not to get swept along by the energy in the room. It’s not polished or polite but that’s the charm of it. There’s a sense that anything could happen next and often does.

After two fun hours, bingo ends and the DJ set begins. The hosts stay on to spin some classic 80s and 90s tunes, keeping the vibe alive and giving everyone a chance to let loose on the dance floor. Everyone was up on their feet and there was even a conga line and some line dancing.

Bogan Bingo bottomless brunch in Brighton is a mad and messy afternoon that doesn’t take itself seriously for a second. The drinks flow, the food hits the spot and the entertainment is gloriously off-the-wall. If you’re after something a bit different to do with your mates on a Saturday, it’s well worth booking.
