Lucky Voice – 8 Black Lion Street, Brighton, BN1 1ND

Lucky Voice Karaoke Brunch in Brighton is a two-hour whirlwind of bottomless cocktails, tasty food and private karaoke with your group. Without a doubt, one of the most fun brunches in Brighton, the drinks flowing straight away, the food pun-filled and there’s more than enough songs to sing to make sure you lose your voice by lunchtime.

The setup is straightforward. You book in advance for a Saturday slot and your group gets its own private karaoke room, which really takes the pressure off. You don’t have to worry about singing in front of strangers or on stage. It’s just your group in a private room with disco lights, two microphones and a screen full of over 13,000 songs to choose from.

Lucky Voice’s staff are quite simply lovely. After a warm welcome, they show you to your karaoke room, explain how to use the equipment and give you your first drinks.

Unlimited drinks last for two full hours with a choice of prosecco, Sex on the Beach cocktails or soft drinks. To order more, you press a button marked ‘thirsty’ and someone appears almost instantly with more drinks.

The bar staff are quick, friendly and seem completely unfazed by the noise levels and singing disasters going on around them. You never feel like you’re waiting or being forgotten about, which makes a big difference at bottomless brunches like this.

Food is included too, and while it’s not the main event, it’s done with real thought. The selection includes bagels, pastries, salad and fruit, with meat, vegan and vegetarian options clearly available.

The bagels come with hilarious themed names such as Don’t Go Bacon My Heart, The Way You Lox Tonight, I Love Pork and Roll and Hummus You Think You Are. It’s not a hot meal but the portions are generous and it soaks up the cocktails. They even let us box up what we didn’t eat so nothing went to waste.

The karaoke system is very user-friendly. You get two microphones and the touchscreen lets you build a playlist by searching for songs, artists or using the ready-made playlists grouped by genre, decade or occasion. It takes no time at all to get the hang of it. You can queue up songs, skip them, re-order them or just browse for inspiration if your group gets indecisive.

With around 13,000 songs to choose from, there’s something to suit every taste, whether you’re into power ballads, cheesy pop, R&B, indie or just want to shout your way through something badly for fun. We ended up queuing a ridiculous mix of boybands, punk rock, Disney, Celine Dion, Steve’s Lava Chicken and karaoke classics; of course, ending with Bohemian Rhapsody. No regrets.

Lucky Voice karaoke rooms can accommodate anywhere between four and 30 people, which makes it a flexible option whether you’re in a small group or a bigger crowd. The layout is comfortable with seating and enough room to dance around if the mood takes you. The lighting adds to the party feel, but you still feel like you’re in your own little bubble, which helps people loosen up quickly.

What stands out most is the atmosphere. It’s loud, funny, unpretentious and really well managed. You don’t have to be a karaoke fan to enjoy it. There’s no pressure to perform, and half the fun comes from watching your friends commit to songs they clearly don’t know the words to. It’s chaotic in the best possible way and perfect if you’re looking for something to do that doesn’t take itself too seriously.

All in all, Lucky Voice Karaoke Brunch is a solid choice if you want a couple of hours of pure silliness, good drinks and decent food in a private space. It’s simple, well thought out and easy to enjoy. Whether you’re up for a singalong or just there for the ride, it’s one of the best brunches Brighton has to offer.
