Review: Brighton Comic Con

AMEX Stadium – 14th June 2025

Brighton Comic Con arrived at the AMEX Stadium on 14th June and was a jam-packed celebration of all things nerdy, weird and wonderful. The busy crowd was a mixture of fans in costume, collectors on the hunt for rare finds and families there for a good day out. It was a full-on experience from the get-go and there was a lot to take in.

The guest line-up was solid and nicely balanced. Sci-fi icons like Brian Blessed, Colin Baker and Katy Manning drew big crowds while cult favourites like Mike Quinn, Garrick Hagon and puppeteer Ronnie Le Drew brought nostalgic charm. Panels were relaxed and chatty, giving fans a chance to hear real stories without it feeling over-rehearsed or scripted.

Props and photo opportunities were a big hit. People queued to pose with the 1966 Batmobile, Mario warp pipes, the Iron Throne and a life-sized ET and bike. For anyone who wanted to get hands-on, the retro gaming areas offered a fun break from the queues and shopping stalls, though it could have benefitted from more consoles.

The stalls offered a huge variety of items such as 3D printed item, custom dice, Pokemon cards, vintage toys, retro video games, bespoke artwork and quirky handmade pieces. Many sellers were happy to chat about how their work was made.

Cosplayers brought a lot of fun to the day. Whether it was screen-accurate Stormtroopers, Princess Peach and Bowser or inventive mash-ups you wouldn’t see anywhere else, the effort and enthusiasm on display had everyone smiling.

The layout of the AMEX helped keep things mostly under control, with plenty of space to explore, although there were some rough patches. A morning fire alarm meant delayed entry which made in very busy with a large queue to enter. There was also a strong smell coming from the toilet areas. It wasn’t a deal-breaker, but it definitely took the shine off things for some. A larger venue for next year would be fantastic.

Queues for food, drink and autographs were fairly quick-moving and most traders were well stocked, friendly and up for a chat. Entry pricing was reasonable, especially for families and those who booked in advance.

All in all, Brighton Comic Con by Creed Conventions was a big, slightly chaotic, fun-packed day that had plenty to offer for fans of all ages. Not perfect, but full of character, with more than enough to keep you smiling on the way home.
