Alcotraz in Brighton: Cell Block One-Three

Alcotraz Brighton is a night out like no other, throwing you behind bars for an evening of mischief, cocktails and full-blown prison drama.

This quirky, immersive experience plunges you straight into the 1970s where you’ll meet a dodgy crew of guards, an iron-fisted warden and some troublemaking inmates, all while you sip on delicious cocktails smuggled into your cell.
Aloctraz is on Kings Road, opposite Brighton Beach and next to the Queens Hotel. From the outside, it’s unassuming with a subtle sign. As soon as you step in, you’re kitted out in the iconic orange jumpsuit, the official inmate uniform for the night. Jumpsuits are available in a range of sizes so everyone can be comfy.

The fun kicks off when one of the crooked guards helps you sneak in your booze (a 35ml bottle of spirit or soft drink for two people is recommended). Whether it’s hidden in a book or disguised as a cuddly toy, you’re already part of the plot before you know it.

The basement turned prison is decked out with all the classic US jailhouse features including metal bars, dingy cells and even a toilet in the corner, all adding to the vibe. But the real entertainment comes from the character actors roaming around.

The warden is fierce and strict. With her thick southern US accent, she makes sure everyone knows who’s boss, popping by your cell to lay down the law. Meanwhile, the two guards and a cheeky fellow inmate, Cassidy, keep the laughs rolling with playful banter and some hilarious prison tasks.

The cocktails are a standout feature. They’re crafted with your smuggled spirits and served in sneaky metal mugs because obviously, the warden can’t know you’re drinking. With four different cocktails served throughout the night, there’s plenty to enjoy and you even get to tweak your drinks to match your taste whether you’re into sweet, sour or something stronger. Bonus points for the creative garnishes that make you forget you’re technically behind bars.

To add to the chaos, you get a prison record to fill out, complete with an alias, crime of choice and your own hand-drawn mugshot. Some of these are even read out loud by the warden to the group. It’s silly and fun and helps to make you feel part of the whole inmate experience.

With the close quarters and intimate setting, you’re constantly interacting with the cast who are absolute pros at staying in character and improvising on the fly. They know how to get everyone involved, no matter the group size with quick wit and cheeky antics that’ll have you giggling all night. You’re not just a spectator; you’re part of the story, making this experience one of the best things to do in Brighton.

Alcotraz in Brighton delivers a fun mix of immersive theatre and creative cocktails. It’s a wild ride through prison life, packed with laughs, drinks and great performances from the actors. If you’re after something a bit different for your next night out, this one definitely ticks all the boxes.
